Call it what you want, but this is a gangster movie.
“The Tempest” is a reinterpretation of a Shakespeare classic. Yeah, so, umm, I didn’t know that.
Say what you want about having to “read the words”, but at least foreign cinema offers a different point of view, and operates free from the “maximum profit” and “easy consumption” big studio philosophies.
“Barney’s Version” is a pretty good film elevated by one great performance.
“Another Year” features some interesting dialogue, and entertaining character interaction, but if you are looking for a big climax…well, it never comes.
If I ever write a screenplay, I am going to have a part for Jeff Bridges.
“Biutiful” is overlong and underwhelming. Though it does have it’s moments, there’s just far too much downtime.
What’s clear after watching “Inside Job” is that we are all fucked.
With just one brilliant performance, Ryan Gosling was able to completely wipe the terrible taste of “The Notebook” out of my mouth.
“The Illusionist”, at only eighty minutes long, ends rather abruptly. So abruptly, in fact, that the crowd in the theater around me audibly groaned when the screen went black and the credits rolled.
In recent years, much has been made about the homosexual overtones of “Top Gun”, but I did not get that vibe at all. I watched intently, trying to pick up clues that might suggest any homoerotic or outright gay themes, but none could be detected.
