While watching “Red State”, it’s abundantly clear that this film was made without kowtowing to the establishment. For that reason alone, the experience can best be described as refreshing, and it was a welcome (and LONG overdue) change of pace.
A white guy kidnaps, tortures and kills women in graphic detail. Why? I have no idea…I doubt even he knows.
As I watched the film in a theater full of imbeciles and hooligans who would clap or gasp at every moronic plot twist, I started to wonder how they could possibly wrap this up. Who could revealed as the killer and not completely ruin the film…
Produced for a microscopic $20,000, it’s a true independent film in every sense of the word. But by no means mistake the term “independent” with “amateur”.

Pretending your film is a documentary, shot on video with a shaking camera, is just an excuse to make a film on a low budget without people noticing. Guess what? I noticed.
